Flowing Heart - LED Fountain

I got this fountain as a gift; it's not something I would have purchased myself, and certainly not for the current price ($25) on Amazon. Reviews I've read elsewhere indicate that it might not be very durable. Purchasers have reported that the motor eventually burns out, and some people have noted that it leaks. I haven't had these problems yet, but I have noted several shortcomings:



*It's much smaller than you might expect, about 6.5 inches high and 5 inches wide (though, to be fair, the small size might be just what you're looking for).

*It's made from some sort of resin or plastic, and it feels like it would be easy to break.

*It does NOT come with an adapter. You must use 2 AA batteries (which other reviewers have said only last a day or so) or buy an adapter separately. I really can't imagine under what circumstances someone would only want to use a fountain for short periods of time, so not having a built-in or accompanying power supply is a clear sign of cheapness and that the product is not expected to last.

*Even if you do buy an adapter, you still won't be able to leave this fountain on all the time! On the underside, there is a warning label that says to not leave the fountain on continuously for more than 72 hours to avoid pump damage. But then how long do I have to turn it off before turning it back on?

*There is not a mechanism to protect the pump if the fountain runs dry. You'll burn it out if it does.

*Though the illustration makes it look like it comes with a bounty of rocks, there are actually only 14 small rocks, and they do not cover the entire base.

*The fountain splashes a LOT, though you won't notice this at first. It was only after leaving it running a while that I realized everything within a foot or so was wet. If you hold your hand near the fountain for a several seconds, you will discover that it spews out fine droplets constantly.

*The pump is louder than the water. It makes a constant, low buzzing sound. It's not awful, but it definitely detracts from the tranquility of the fountain.



On the plus side, it actually is a very pretty piece. I got it from my severely romance-impaired husband, so I was thrilled. I really wish that the manufacturer had made this a more substantial, well-engineered product.



Should you buy it? Certainly not at this price, and not if you can find something better. But if you are desperate to get your woman something romantic and you find it for, say, under $10, go for it.
